I feel the voice of those with ADHD is the most important voice. Sharing life experiences helps others and normalizes what can often be an overwhelming existence.
Almost all information I have been able to find regarding ADHD is founded on the medical model and is connected to the pharmaceutical industry. The absence of the voice of those with an ADHD diagnosis is significant and creates a gap in how the disorder is approached and understood. I have had an ADHD diagnosis since childhood and found this very alarming and disheartening. The focus is always on the negative, which is used to justify the behaviour label, the need for medication and the creation of other supports, but this negates the positive aspects.
I hope to use my voice to help others navigate what can sometimes be an overwhelming experience.
